There’s been some great horse racing over the Christmas Period, and the Geek hopes you’ve been stuffing your wallets as much as your faces. The action isn’t quite as good this Saturday but, with ITV showing races from Newbury and Haydock, we’ve 3 TV Tips for you.
Whiskey Chaser impressed over course and distance on similarly heavy ground last time and, though he’s up in class here, he’s the only horse that gets to carry below 11-0. That could prove significant with 3 of the last 4 winners carrying between 10-7 and 10-11. Trainer Donald McCain also has his horses in the best form they’ve been in for a while.

Knockanrawley won this race in 2014 off a 3lb lower-mark, and injury stopped him having a chance to win the race again in 2015 and 2016. However, he’s run some fine races since his return from injury, including a fifth in the Classic Chase, and a second in the Eider Chase. He also ran well on his only other appearance at Newbury, and looks an each-way bet with the stable of Kim Bailey amongst the winners.

Poetic Rhythm has always been highly-tried by trainer Fergal O’Brien, and he started to live up to his trainer’s high-opinion when looking an improved animal when winning a decent race on his seasonal debut at Chepstow. His trainer was therefore disappointed when he could only finish third at Cheltenham on his last run, but the winner was backed off the boards before an impressive win at Sandown next time, and the second has also boosted the form with a handicap win at Cheltenham.
