It’s a double-header from Wincanton and Doncaster this Saturday, and I’ve four TV Tips for you – 3 at Wincanton and 1 at Doncaster.
Only 3 runners go to post for the Rising Star Novices Chase, but Modus is strongly fancied to get the better of Kalondra off level-weights. He finished 4 places in front of that rival in last season’s Coral Cup, when conceding 4lb, and looked a natural on his chasing debut. Sam Twiston-Davis has yet to ride him, but his style should suit.
Tip: Modus win @ 4/5 William Hill
Charbel was giving Altior plenty to think about in the Arkle when blundering last year, and could be potentially thrown-in off a mark of 149 back over hurdles on that form. His hurdles form isn’t quite as good, but he may just have got better since, and he did once give weight and a beating to the high-class Brain Power over hurdles on a flat right-handed track.
Tip: Charbel win @ 7/2 William Hill
There was quite a bit of money around for Saunter on his first run for Ian Williams, and he certainly wasn’t disgraced in finishing second to the progressive Torcello. The handicapper raised him 2lb for that run, but he’s still 4lb below his highest-mark, and the booking of Jim Crowley suggests he’s fancied to go close.
Tip: Saunter each-way @ 8/1 William Hill
Fletcher’s Flyer has always looked better going right-handed and, as he was a strong fancy for last year’s Irish Grand National off a 2lb higher-mark, he should go close today. Trainer Harry Fry is in excellent form too, whilst regular pilot Noel Fehily would have had the choice of riding quite a few horses in this field. He’s also won his only start at the track.
Tip: Fletcher’s Flyer each-way @ 12/1 William Hill
