Those of you who are superstitious may decide to keep your money in your pocket as it’s Friday 13th – however The Geek doesn’t believe in such nonsense, especially when there’s a TV double-header from Newmarket and York.

Newmarket 2.25

The connections of Dark Rose Angel must have been tempted to go for the Fillies Mile later on the card but, after running a great race in a Group 2 at Doncaster last time on ground that was considered softer than ideal, this looks a great opportunity for her. The good ground here should suit her much better here and, the fact she’s already shown she stays further than this 7-furlong trip, should stand her in good stead in the closing stages. The booking of Frankie Dettori is also a plus.

Massaat has to carry a 3lb penalty, which means he’s worse off with Limato who is rated only 1lb inferior to him. However, though Limato has excellent course form on the July Course having been first and second in the last two July Cups, he may find 7-furlongs on the Rowley Mile on good or softer ground stretching his stamina to the limits. Meanwhile, Massaat also boasts excellent course form having split Galileo Gold and Ribchester in the 2,000 Guineas in 2016, and he’s fancied to outstay Limato in the final stages.

Happily is bred to be an Oaks filly next year, and is improving rapidly having already reversed early-season form with stablemates Magical and September. Her last two wins have been at Group 1 Level and, after relishing the step-up to a mile last time, when she beats some high-class colts in France, she is taken to outstay her rivals here under Ryan Moore.

York 3.55

The Grand Visir looked to be ridden too close to the pace last time at York, and the four horses that finished in front of him all came from the back, whereas the other horses ridden near the front all faded tamely late on. Silvestre De Sousa is onboard today and, having hopefully learned from that mistake, connections will surely hold him up for longer here. Trainer William Haggas is also keen to be York’s Top Trainer this season, so it’s no surprise that he’s been saving him for this lucrative prize since his last run.
